Apple Cobbler |
A very easy dump cake using just a few ingredients, this dump cake was our dessert at Thanksgiving Dinner this year. It can be made with fruit pie filling of any variety. Since I watch my sugar intake, I used a can of Duncan Hines No Sugar Added Apple Pie Filling. To make your own pie filling, stew 2 cups chopped apples with a cup of sugar and a dash of salt. We liked this dump cake so much that the following week, I made a peach dump cake using no sugar added canned peach slices.
1 (20 oz.) can Duncan Hines apple pie filling
2 tsp. vanilla extract, divided
2 tsp. almond extract, divided
1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour + 2 tsp. baking powder)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 stick butter, melted
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Place butter in baking pan and melt in oven while it's preheating, remove from oven and set aside.
- Empty contents of pie filling into a mixing bowl and add half the vanilla and almond extracts, stir and set aside.
- Stir flour with sugar, cinnamon powder and salt until evenly distributed.
- Add beaten egg, milk, remaining vanilla and almond extracts to flour and stir together until it forms a batter similar to the consistency of a pancake batter.
- Pour batter over melted butter in baking pan, top evenly with tablespoonfuls of apple pie filing and run a fork through the batter.
- Bake in oven at 350F for 45 minutes until top is brown and bubbly.
- Cool at room temperature before slicing.
Serve with Cool Whip or ice cream.
