Red Lentils Cooked With Ginger

Ada Diye Masoorir Dal


Ingredients:
1 cup red lentils (masoor dal), rinsed & soaked
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
½ tsp. nigella seeds (kalonji/kalo jeera)
1 onion, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, diced
1 tsp. ginger paste
¼ tsp. turmeric powder
Salt to taste

¼ tsp. sugar
1 tsp. ginger paste
1 tsp. ghee
1 jalapeno pepper, sliced in rings

Directions
1.    Heat oil and temper with nigella seeds, onions & diced jalapeno peppers.
2.    Add lentils along with soaking liquid, 1 tsp. ginger paste, turmeric and salt to taste.
3.    Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes or until lentils are cooked.
4.    Add sugar and ginger paste and return to a boil.
5.    Garnish with ghee and sliced jalapeno peppers.
Serve with steamed Basmati rice or tortillas.
